Update on Diving

Apparently a few local stores have put it out (as well as BAMM), but the book hasn’t gone to the major distribution chains yet.  So officially, it is still a November release.  Unofficially, it’s in stock at Amazon, so if you can’t wait for your local store to get Diving into the Wreck, you know where to find it. … Read entire article »

Diving is out!

My editor, Lou Anders, just gave me the heads-up: He saw Diving into the Wreck on the bookstore shelves today.  So he got home and checked, and Diving is marked as in-stock on Amazon. If you’re planning to buy one, please pick up a copy as soon as possible (publishers look for speed of sales as well as number of sales).  Your local bookstore should have a copy or order here. I’ll do a flashier post with the cover and everything when I’m not knee-deep in a workshop.  And thanks, y’all, for the great letters letting me know you can’t wait for the book.  It’s heeeeeeere! … Read entire article »

Freelancing isn’t pretty, but it can be a lot of fun. And it is certainly unpredictable. For example, what have I been doing this week? … Read entire article »

Freelancer’s Survival Guide: When To Return To Your Day Job

Artwork donated by Pati Nagle. The Freelancer’s Survival Guide: When to Return to Your Day Job Kristine Kathryn Rusch I know, I know. Many of you don’t have day jobs to return to. Perhaps I should have called this section “When To Return to A Day Job,” because there are always day jobs lurking out there, especially bad day jobs, the kind that work you to death and don’t pay the rent, let alone benefits or vacation days. I’ve been planning to do this section ever since I wrote the “When To Quit Your Day Job” section in May. Because most freelancers bounce back and forth between a day job and no day job for years. Let’s talk about why. First, freelance work is unreliable. I’ve discussed this in previous sections. (I … Read entire article »
