Diving January Book Club Pick
Joseph Mallozzi, one of the producers of Stargate and a well-read sf afficionado, has a book club every month. He announced this week that he’s picked Diving into the Wreck for his January book. So he’s encouraging people to buy the book now and send questions. Here’s the link to his announcement. And if you’re a fan of Stargate: Universe like I am (I just love how that ancient ship refuels!), then read the rest of his blog for nifty behind-the-scenes stuff. Thanks, Joe, for the book boost. … Read entire article »

Excerpt From Diving into the Wreck
As you’ll see over the next few weeks, I’ve gone website happy. I figure it’s easier to have a static website for some of my universes, which will easily answer reader questions. So the first to go live (as they say) is Diving into the Wreck. I haven’t done everything I want to do yet; I’d like to highlight artist Dave Seeley’s work, for example, and help people find the various novellas. But I have enough to let y’all know it’s there–and, more importantly, that there’s an excerpt from the novel on the site, for those of you on the fence about buying it. You can find the excerpt here. Jack’s Wonder’s Child helped me through last December, when the future looked particularly bleak. His chapters on writing during the Great Depression helped me over my fears of the future of publishing in this economic downturn. (I … Read entire article »

Self Promotion Article
So, while I’m designing 3 new websites to promote my work (one for Diving [buy it! buy it!], one for the Retrieval Artist, and one that I’ll announce next week), Dean goes and publishes a post on the perils of self-promotion. Hmmmm. Maybe I should read it. Seriously, I have read it and you writers out there should to. You can find it here. Guess I should identify the Dean mentioned above. That’s my husband, writer extraordinaire, Dean Wesley Smith. He’s got lots of good stuff on his blog. Check it out. … Read entire article »

G-Men in Best American Mysteries
For those of you who would rather read a mystery anthology than an sf anthology and still want to read “G-Men,” pick up The Best American Mystery Stories 2009, edited by Jeffrey Deaver and Otto Penzler. The volume came out just in time for Bouchercon, but I didn’t have a chance to post until this week. (And of course, remember to pick up your copy of Diving while you’re doing your book shopping!) … Read entire article »
