•You can now read an excerpt of WMG’s edition of A Dangerous Road here.

WMG Publishing has purchased the next Smokey Dalton novel The Day After. It will appear in 2013.  WMG also bought the entire Smokey backlist, so all of the books will be reissued throughout 2012, both in print and online.

  1. Gayle Feyrer says:

Looking forward to the next Smokey Dalton. You probably have my name on file, but thought I’d check in and see if there’s a date set.

    • Kris says:

No date yet, but the book will be underway as of May. And all of the previous SD books are coming back into print this spring. So things are moving. I’m hoping that the new one will be out about this time next year. Thank you for your continued interest in the series!

  2. Indra says:

This is wonderful news, I’ve been re-reading my Smokey Dalton books and really looking forward to the next one! Has any date been finalized for publication?

    • Kris says:

Nothing yet. I slowed down because of family stuff, but as soon as I have the information here, I’ll let you know. :-) In the meantime, all of the books are being reissued, with new covers, during the summer.

  3. Indra says:

Thank you! And I will look out for the re-issued books…my copies are a bit worn out from re-reading, so it would be great to get another set.

    • Kris says:

I’ll be making an announcement here as they start to appear. The covers are spectacular. (A first, I think, for the series.)

  4. Brian Clarke says:

I bought the first five Smokey Dalton e-books, and read the first. It was just as good the second time around, and it was great the first time.
When will Days of Rage be available. This is beginning to feel like my experience the first time with this series. That sixth book was the hardest to find then, too.

  5. Bill says:

Okay, I’ve had gifted to me (originally) many of your Retrieval Artist books and have purchased the rest. Just reading the last of the purchases now.

Although I was told that one could read the books in any sequence and I’m sure one could, I really enjoyed reading them mainly in order.

Question about the SD series: Is there a sequence for reading them? I didn’t find anything about that on your site here, Kris.

    • Bill, you can read them out of order–they’re designed that way–but better to read in order. The first is Dangerous Road, then Smoke-Filled Rooms, Thin Walls, and so on. The order is in the books, and Real Soon Now, I’ll have it all on here, along with some promo stuff. (Of course I’ve been saying that all year.) Thanks!

  6. Tammy Kinkade says:

Have read all of the Smokey Dalton series in the past week and I LOOOVE them! When can we expect the one after Days of Rage?? I am hooked!
You are a fantastic writer. I have read a book a day, for many years now, all series books, and Smokey is right up there with my faves!

    • Tammy, I’m so glad you love the series! The next full novel after Days of Rage will come out in March of 2014. The book is called Street Justice, and it just went to the copy editor on Friday. I’ll be putting the covers of all the reissued titles sometime soon. :-) Thanks for the kind words!

  7. Tammy Kinkade says:

LOL Well, never mind, then…I just researched further and found 2 more books. Keep up the great work!!

  8. Mirron Willis says:

    Thank you Kris.

  9. Kelly Pearce says:

Kris, I am a little confused (not unusual – must be the Polar Vortex) did the title of “The Day After” change to “Street Justice”? Did I miss something?

  10. Nuri says:

I posted this question on the Kris Nelscott website but have not gotten an answer. I just listened to the first Smokey Dalton book and I love it. I would like like to know what Smokey looks like. Is he tall dark and handsome? Is he light skinned or dark skinned? He reminds me of my grandfather who was a black Clark Gable. I hope Smokey is as handsome as he is smart.

    • Hi, Nuri,

I’m sorry I missed your comment. I don’t get the comments directly from that site, which is managed by my publisher.

Smokey is tall and muscular. He’s very dark, and I think he’s handsome. :-) More Ving Rhames or Avery Brooks than Sidney Poitier (not that I would mind having a young Sidney Poitier in the role!) I like black Clark Gable because Gable didn’t care how he looked. That’s Smokey.

I’m so glad you liked the book!

  11. Maryann says:

Love the series so far and Mirron’s voice! Any plans for more between Smokey and Laura?
