Business Musings: Serious Writer Voice

A lot of the stories I read this past year had wonderful plots. They had great characters and lovely twists. The stories were published, remember, and so they all had something unusual, something strong.

But that something generally wasn’t voice….

Recommended Reading List: January, 2015

Wow, when I get behind, I get behind. I ran out of time to write about books as I finished them, and figured I could do it in February. Yeah, right. With two workshops, and a bunch of deadlines, February has proven to be a nightmare of scheduling—which is why this thing barely squeezed in before the month ended. I read a lot in January. […]

Recommended Reading List: December, 2013

I read a lot in December, too much of it forgettable. I read a Christmas novel by one of my favorite romance authors, a reissue that I had missed, and was pretty disturbed by the behavior of the male protagonist. Recommended Reading List: October, 2012

Here’s the list, with everything on it written sometime in December. ————— What a weird year. I’m […]

Recommended Reading List: October 2011

I got very far behind in posting my Recommended Reading lists in 2011. I’ll try to do better in 2012 by posting the month after the list was compiled. However, I have to catch up on 2011 first. So here’s October. Everything you see below was written then. Enjoy! —— We had about six emergencies in our life in October, some involving health, some involving […]

The Business Rusch: Bestselling Writers (Changing Times Part Eight)

The Business Rusch: Bestselling Writers (Changing Times Part Eight) Kristine Kathryn Rusch Every single writer I’ve ever met wants to become a bestseller.  Writers want their work read by everyone from their teachers to the grade-school bully to some person in a small unsung island in the Pacific. The problem is that vision of a bestseller is incorrect.  There is no such thing as a […]
