Odds and Ends
I still have some catching up to do from my trip—a few things to tell you about the travels and a few notes, in addition to a lot of business blogs and some writing blogs. I came home to the expected jetlag and the unexpected efficiency of my editors. I thought—before I left—that I’d have the rest of September off. But I’m going to be working hard.
Not that I’m complaining. As you all know, I love my job. I just didn’t quite expect to be this busy.
But before I go any farther, let me catch up on a few things.
First, you can get one of my “Diving” stories in the Oct/Nov Asimov’s. You’ll need to go to the store soonest because the December issue is about to appear. This story, “Becoming One With The Ghosts,” features a new character and a situation we haven’t seen before in the “Diving” universe. You can find an excerpt here along with information on how to order this electronically or in regular old-fashioned magazine format.
The second story, “Disaster Relief,” is a reprint, but I know many of you haven’t seen it. Besides, the anthology is one you need to buy. All of the profits from Breaking Waves will go to the victims of the current Gulf disaster—folks who are out of the news now, but filled it just a few months ago. So head to this link and order the anthology. You’ll find work by the wonderful Ursula K. Le Guin and Vonda McIntyre and other great writers. You can find more information here.
I finally read through my stack of Asimov’s that I’d been putting off (got married late last year, so that put everything else on hold) and finally read Becoming One With The Ghosts.
What a great novella!
I’ve ordered a copy of Diving into the Wreck as a result, and i realize they aren’t the same cast – but same universe, which is good enough for me.
Will you be doing more with Coop and the crew of the Ivoire? I’d love to follow along in their adventure.
Thanks!
Oh, yes, Coop & the Ivoire will be in City of Ruins in May and in Boneyards next year. I’m so glad you liked the novella!
Darn, my local B&N doesn’t carry Asimov’s. I’ll have to check Kindle.
It should be on Kindle or on Fictionwise, if Kindle doesn’t have it.
I somehow thought the story in Disaster Relief was another in the “diving” series. It sort of feels like there more stories published somewhere with these charachters or capabilities?
There are other stories with these characters, Bill. (Sorry for the confusion.) They’ll be going up as e-books shortly, but the stories are in Tekno anthos. “Saving Face,” “Familiar Territory,” and…oh, jeez. I can’t remember the other title. I’ll have to look it up. At some point, I’ll do a novel with Winston and Ruby. “Familiar Territory” is the first of their stories, btw.
I finished that one a few days ago, Kris, and it was excellent. I love the twist. Very well done.
Thanks, Jeremy. 🙂
