Triwell doesn’t adopt strays. He feels like a stray himself, a man who has lost everything even though he has a house and an antiquarian bookstore in Seavy Village on the Oregon Coast.

But the cat adopted him. And she proves a mystery. A mystery who lives with him. A mystery he will solve one summer in a surprising—and deadly—way.

I’m an animal person too and have cats and dogs. Dogs will love you no matter what, but cats love in proportion to the love they receive. A lot like people, really. Thank you for a beautiful story. 🙂

Now I am in tears. Our oldest cat is 19 and our youngest is not quite 2 and they are all rescues…some from vets and shelters, one from a basement (8oz. when we got her and half of that was parasites) and one from a barnyard (we had to teach her how to eat and had to feed her with our fingers). There is a special place in hell for people who are cruel to cats.

  3. Great story. I enjoyed it a great deal. Thank you for sharing it.
