Free Fiction Monday: Dread Unlocks
In Los Angeles, everyone knows Ms. Tarbell dispels dread. She finds an amazing amount of it in that sunlight-filled city, but nothing like the unnamed horror she faces on her current case. It arrives in a van. It has cameras, an agenda, and the ability to change her life in awful, nasty, inconceivable ways.
First written for a Lovecraft celebration, “Dread Unlocks” reveals the creeping uncontrollable dread in modern life, a dread Lovecraft himself might find too horrible to contemplate.
“Dread Unlocks,” by New York Times bestselling author Kristine Kathryn Rusch, is free on this website for one week only. The story’s also available as an ebook through various online retailers here.

Interesting. I did find an error in continuity but I only had to reread two paragraphs to realize it wasn’t my fault ;-). How did Tarbell get so jaded? Did she think that removing the dread would really allow him to continue to prey upon fame or was she punishing him?
