Free Fiction Monday: Still Life, With Cats
After covering too many war zones, Joshua returns to his grandparents’ place to find the house neglected and the patio filled with cats. He wanted a refuge from the death he witnesses, but the cat yowls remind him of the cries of the wounded. No matter how hard he tries, the cats keep appearing.
So, he finally calls for help, help that proves a little weird, a little strange, but maybe just right.
“Still Life, With Cats,” by New York Times bestselling author Kristine Kathryn Rusch, is free on this website for one week only. The story’s also available as an ebook through various online retailers here.

Ms. Rusch,
Your Free Fiction Monday layout got all weird again this week. It hasn’t been off like this for so long (maybe a year ago?) Fonts have changed, spacing is off, and portions overlap, making it much more difficult to read.
Please go back to the way you’ve had it. I have an android smartphone and like these as bedtime stories.
BTW recently finished the Protectors and await the next Diving novel. And thanks for putting together the Familiarity collection–love the kitties!
Thanks, Cher. I have no idea why it all went weird. I don’t think we did anything differently. I’ll see what my IT guy has to say about this. I appreciate the heads-up.
