When I get too tired to read, I want to watch movies that go “bang”! Lots of explosions or ticking clocks. Lots of tension. Lots of drama. When I’m tired and can read, I want to read stories that go “bang”! Lots of explosions or ticking clocks. Lots of tension. Set anywhere, but I’m particularly partial to space. Which was why I was so excited […]
David Afsharirad chose my story “Once On The Blue Moon,” for The Year’s Best Military & Adventure SF, Volume 5. I had hoped to read the volume before it appeared, because I had the galley, but no such luck. So I’ll be reading it with you. And here’s something fun…readers. You can vote for the best story in the book, and the writer(s) will receive […]
Just in time for summer reading: a space travelers Storybundle!
As I crawled (typed, sobbed) my way to the end of the latest Diving Universe novel—all 260,000 words of it—I used the thought of a Kickstarter to get me through that experience. Why a Kickstarter? Because I wanted to share the false starts with long-term readers, and I figured giving those false starts away in a single book as a Kickstarter reward was the way to do that.
Here’s a fun project, albeit a bit off the beaten path. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to get asked to be in a volume of tribute stories for Richard Matheson. I never met him (although I listened to him on panels), but I’ve adored his work forever. After much trepidation, I wrote the story, which came out in an unexpected way—rather like […]
I figured Gavin would get your attention. When he looks at me like that, he usually gets mine. I promised you a week or so ago that I would have a lot of fun announcements, and I do! I’m going to try to spread the news out a bit, but that’s tough, because there’s so much of it. Fun Fantasy Romance First, for those of […]
Okay, I’m starting with the Best of news. I’m excited to report that my story, “Once on The Blue Moon,” will be in The Best Military & Adventure SF edited by David Afsharirad. The book will appear in the summer. David says he hasn’t finalized the table of contents yet, but he will post that when he has it. Still, he gave us permission to […]
The readers of Asimov’s SF Magazine have given me a great honor. Three pieces of my fiction have made the final reader’s award ballot. The two novellas, “Joyride,” and “The Rescue of the Renegat,” are part of my upcoming new Diving novel, The Renegat, which will appear in September. “Lieutenant Tightass,” which is up for best novelette, is part of the recently released Searching For […]
I’ve been remiss in letting you know about various publications. I’m not quite sure where I left off, so I’ll do my best to catch up. One reason I got so far behind is a super-huge Diving novel that I finished in September. I still have some assembly to do, and then you’ll have even more news about it. I write out of order, and […]
I have finally figured out my writing and work schedule here in Las Vegas. It only took me eight months to do so. That means I can catch up on letting you all know about the various projects, publications, and deals that center around my work. I’m starting with the ones that will vanish in a set amount of time. That means Storybundles! Yes, there […]
