Now I can tell you a secret I’ve been sitting on for weeks. Two secrets, really. My story, “Red Letter Day,” won the AnLab Award for Best Short Story. AnLab is Analog Magazine’s Readers Choice Award. “Red Letter Day” is a stand-alone story about time travel. My novella, “Becoming One With the Ghosts,” won the Asimov’s Readers Choice Award for Best Novella. “Becoming One With […]
First, Asimov’s has just published “Becalmed,” which is set in the Diving Universe. The story involves a character who appears for about a chapter in the upcoming City of Ruins from Pyr. But I had to figure out what her backstory was, so I wrote this piece. I suspect there will be even more backstory to come (which will become front story) as I work […]
Once per month, I’ll post an excerpt from a published novel of mine and hope that you’ll be intrigued enough to find the rest of the book. I decided to start with Diving into the Wreck because the next book set in that universe, City of Ruins, will be out in May. This will give you time to read Diving before City comes out. You […]
I still have some catching up to do from my trip—a few things to tell you about the travels and a few notes, in addition to a lot of business blogs and some writing blogs. I came home to the expected jetlag and the unexpected efficiency of my editors. I thought—before I left—that I’d have the rest of September off. But I’m going to be […]
The Business Rusch: Fun, Fun, Fun Kristine Kathryn Rusch I have just spent the entire day on what I call business. I revised and mailed a manuscript to a major market. I read and signed contracts. I completed banking forms, and then I completed taxation forms. I visited the bank, was on the phone with the same bank’s 800 number, and I made lists, lists, […]
Because I was teaching last week and madly finishing up a novel (which I’m still working on), I got behind in posting the new electronic stories. WMG Publishing is reprinting my entire backlist of short stories in electronic editions, and WMG’s imprint, Five Story Publishing, is publishing groups of those stories by theme in collections. The collections are economical, cheaper than buying the stories individually. […]
The Wisconsin Library Association has chosen Diving into the Wreck as one of the top ten books of the year by a Wisconsin writer. You can find the press release here. I’m both thrilled and honored, since I spent most of my formative years in Wisconsin libraries.
Finally, the e-book for Diving into the Wreck is available on Kindle. You can find it here. I’m not sure about other e-versions. Readers, please do let me know if you can’t find other formats. I have a hunch they will be available within the week. Thanks for your patience!
My novella “The Spires of Denon,” which is set in the Diving into the Wreck universe, is available as an e-book. You can order a Kindle version here or you can find it on Scribd here. Enjoy!
The Dragon Page has uploaded its first interview podcast of the year–an interview with me. It covers a wide range of things from my latest novel Diving into the Wreck to The Freelancer’s Survival Guide to future tech. You can listen or download here.
