Free Fiction Monday: The Charming Way

The short story that provided the inspiration for Grayson’s paranormal romance novel, Wickedly Charming.

Free Fiction Monday: The Strangeness of the Day

Nora Barr’s struggling law practice gets a boost when she meets a tall, dark, and handsome stranger who has a snake wrapped around his arm and a short sidekick with a mean mouth.

The stranger claims to have custody of Sleeping Beauty, and he needs Nora’s help to protect her. Against her better judgment, Nora agrees—and her life changes forever.  The inspiration for Rusch’s novel, Utterly Charming, written under her pen name Kristine Grayson, this fractured fairy tale won France’s prestigious fantasy award, Le Prix Imaginales.

A few months ago, one of my favorite people and one of my favorite editors, Denise Little, contacted me to let me know she’s editing a brand new romance magazine. She wondered if I, or more specifically, Kristine Grayson, could contribute a story. Now, sadly, Grayson’s stories require me to be in a goofy mood, and last fall I was anything but goofy. (I’m […]

Business Musings: The Branding Surprise

Over the weekend, I headed to traditional publishers’ websites and look at their paranormal romance covers only to discover…that the damn books are branded like urban fantasy or like an E.L. James knockoff or like a cookbook or travelogue. All of this points out a huge problem in the paranormal romance genre. There’s nothing that screams modern paranormal romance. Believe me when I tell you that readers look for such things.
