August Rush
Last night, I watched August Rush. It’s a sweet little film, a fable about love and music and relationships. What struck me about the movie, however, wasn’t its sweetness or its charm. This is the first film I’ve ever seen that accurately shows what it is like to think musically.
I was raised in a musical world. If you’d met me when I was in high school and you knew I’d make my living in the arts, you probably would have guess that I would become a musician. (I played a bunch of instruments and sang in all the choirs I could get into.) I do think musically, even now. There’s always a snippet of music running in my head, and sound is very, very important to me.
I loved how the film portrayed this. That one detail took the film from an enjoyable night’s entertainment to something I’ll remember for a long time.
