Just In Time For Halloween…
…or rather, the lead-up to Halloween. I love October. I love the darkening days, the blowing leaves, the spectacular sunsets over the ocean. I even love the return of the rain.
Also, the Halloween products in the stores favor my tastes. Skeletons, witch hats, orange-and-black buckets. I love it all. I have too many Halloween mugs to prove it. (And let’s not talk about the jewelry. I have so many spiderweb and skeleton earrings that I could wear a different pair every day this month and still not run out.)
So, it’s no surprise that I have a few appropriate stories coming out this month. The first appears in the current issue of Fiction River: Haunted. We did a Christmas Ghosts volume a few years ago, but those stories all have happy endings. Not all the stories in Haunted do. They’re great pieces about hauntings, most of them (although not all!) featuring ghosts. Some are funny, some are sad, and a few are downright terrifying.
My story, “Ghosting,” is one of the longer pieces in the book, and it’s one of the darker pieces. I think you’ll like it—and this edition of Fiction River.
If you want something with a more upbeat ending, pick up the short story bundle, Witches Brew, curated by Jamie Ferguson. My short story in this bundle is a YA piece called “Domestic Magic.” It’s one of my personal favorites.
Really, these short story bundles are cool mini ebook anthologies. You can get 7 short stories for $4, but pay $2 more and you’ll end up with 20 stories. I haven’t read all of the stories yet, but I’ve read a lot of fiction by all but one of these authors, and loved their work. I’ve bought their work for various anthologies. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
This bundle will be around in this form for only 11 days, so get yours now!
And, speaking of bundles, you have a little under two days (as of this posting) to get the Extreme SF Bundle. With work from Dean Wesley Smith and Kevin J. Anderson, a Fiction River, and a Retrieval Artist novel from me—and that’s only the stuff I’ve read (!), you really can’t go wrong. $5 here gets you five novels. Spend more, and you’ll get all 10 books. Hurry, though, because this deal disappears fast.
So…lots to read as you sit inside, watching the multicolored leaves scatter across the wet pavement and sipping on the first pumpkin spice latte of the season. Enjoy!
