A spooky rock formation on a stormy coast.

The Devil’s Churn

Fantasy horror Seavy County

There is a place called The Devil’s Churn on a part of the Oregon Coast we can all drive to. Is it the entrance into Seavy County, the imaginary magical part of the Oregon Coast? Maybe….

The Devil’s Churn novel features the actual Devil’s Churn and some great mysterious doings. It’s available as part of the Seavy County Kickstarter that has less than a week to go.

Seavy County is a dark and mysterious place on the coast. Seavy County the series spans every genre possible, from dark fantasy to science fiction to crime to romance. The Kickstarter spans all of those genres too.

For the past two days, I’ve featured the books in the Kickstarter. If you want to know more about Façade or FantasyLife and the collection Shadows & Selkies, take a look at the previous posts or click on the highlighted names. If you want to sample some Seavy County stories, I have two pieces of free fiction available on this website right now. “Heroics” is a crime thriller set in Seavy County. “The Women of Whale Rock” takes place in the FantasyLife portions of the Seavy County.

The Devil’s Churn stands alone. Originally written for a now-defunct horror book line, The Devil’s Churn is Gothic dark fantasy, not true horror.

Here’s the blurb:

Fifty years after a stormy sea swallowed Spencer Chadwick at the treacherous Devil’s Churn, his sweetheart, Addy, finds herself face-to-face with a past she hoped to forget. Now, in her mother’s yard, she finds young Spence’s lookalike.

Spencer’s possible return threatens to uncover long buried secrets. Secrets the people of Dory Cove fear will unleash a horrifying power from the sea—a power that might swallow the entire town before anyone can stop it.

“Like early Ray Bradbury, Rusch has the ability to switch on a universal dark.” —the Times

For $18, you can get this book and two others, as well as a short story for every single stretch goal we hit. There are also collections and workshops and so much more. Click here to go to the Kickstarter.
