I get busy, and I forget to update you folks, and then all of the news piles up into a big…news pile. (Okay, you know what I mean.) Let’s go by deadline. First, WMG Publishing is holding a half-off online workshops sale. We did this when COVID started to encourage people to stay in and learn. We hoped it would be a one-shot. It wasn’t. […]
About a week ago, I got cheeky on Facebook, and said that figured the slogan for 2020 was What Fresh Hell Is This? (Hat-tip to Dorothy Parker, for memorializing a phrase that came into vogue…in the 1920s.) Every day of 2020 has brought something new and world-altering, from the coronavirus to Brexit to all the stuff happening in the U.S. to…well, I’m sure there’s something […]
As Collette’s parents take her on an outdated “luxury” starliner called the Blue Moon to yet another boarding school, she sees this as just one more crappy turn of events. But when the guys with guns show up, she knows boarding school pales in comparison to whatever these guys plan to do to her—and to her parents. So, when the bad guys lock her in […]
Here’s a fun project, albeit a bit off the beaten path. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to get asked to be in a volume of tribute stories for Richard Matheson. I never met him (although I listened to him on panels), but I’ve adored his work forever. After much trepidation, I wrote the story, which came out in an unexpected way—rather like […]
I figured Gavin would get your attention. When he looks at me like that, he usually gets mine. I promised you a week or so ago that I would have a lot of fun announcements, and I do! I’m going to try to spread the news out a bit, but that’s tough, because there’s so much of it. Fun Fantasy Romance First, for those of […]
I’ve been remiss in letting you know about various publications. I’m not quite sure where I left off, so I’ll do my best to catch up. One reason I got so far behind is a super-huge Diving novel that I finished in September. I still have some assembly to do, and then you’ll have even more news about it. I write out of order, and […]
This week’s Free Fiction Monday is a little different. It’s a way to sample my new Diving novel, Searching for the Fleet, before its publication day on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The novella “Dix,” which was first published in the March/April issue of Asimov’s, follows Yash Zarlengo, an engineer aboard the ship Ivoire, as she tries to cope with the fallout of the accident that caused the Ivoire to be propelled five thousand years in the future. When First Officer Dix does something that shocks Yash to her core, she must put her own life on the line to uncover a threat that could mean the end to everything she knows.
“Dix,” by Hugo Award-winning author Kristine Kathryn Rusch, is free on this website for one week only.
Typos abound, even here on my website. I had this labeled August 2019 for the longest time. Who knew that I would be able to recommend books I would read a year from now? Seriously, though, August started out well, with the Amanda Quick book that I just devoured. I had a lot of other reading to do, and much of it was fun. I […]
I feel like I’ve been trapped in the Diving universe so long that’s all I’ve ever written. But that’s not true, and here’s proof. Jonathan Strahan has invited me into his Infinity project more than once, and I’m honored to be part of the final book in that project, Infinity’s End. The idea here was to explore our solar system, and make it lived in. […]
Bit by bit, pieces of Searching For The Fleet are leaking out. Those of you who read “Dix” in Asimovs a few months back saw part of Searching For The Fleet. Here’s another piece. It’s a story about Coop from the days before he became captain of the Ivoire. The reactions to this story are pretty strong, which pleases me. I hope it brings some […]
